California Localities Declare March Afghan-American Heritage Month

Several California cities and localities approved proclamations that declared the month of March as Afghan-American Heritage Month.

From Northern California to Southern California, county boards of supervisors and city councils heard from Afghan-American leaders, including Afghans for a Better Tomorrow and The 5ive Pillars Organization in support of these proclamations.

"The Afghan community in Sacramento County represents a proud tapestry of individuals...brining their unique traditions, histories and experiences to our community," said Sacramento County Board of Supervisor Chair Patrick Kennedy who spoke in support at an early March board meeting.

Soon after, Supervisors from Alameda, San Diego and Santa Clara Counties also approved proclamations. The City of Los Angeles City Council also approved a proclamation naming March as Afghan-American Heritage Month.
