Al Jazeera Covers Our Work

The 5ive Pillars Organization's work with resettlement was covered in an Al Jazeera article on the one year anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan.

In the article, Afghan refugees struggle to adjust to life in the US, reporter Brian Osgood covers the many hurdles and obstacles faced by Afghan newcomers in the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly in the South Bay where many newcomer families have been living in temporary housing for months.

The 5ive Pillars Organization is among many community based organizations (CBOs) who have stepped up in the last year to fill the gaps in refugee aid response. Housing has become a major challenge for newcomers, especially in parts where rent prices are notoriously high.

Many newcomer families have been living in temporary housing arrangements in hotels across the City of San Jose, where The 5ive Pillars Organization has been active in providing relief to families in the form of clothing donation, school supplies for children, diapers for new families, laptops, navigating their new environment , translation, and more.

Executive Director Zuhal Bahaduri told Al Jazeera, "It's one crisis after another for these families. Leaving Afghanistan was only half the battle,".
