Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) visited the Matt Jimenez Community Center, where the City of Hayward and 5ive Pillars Organization partnered up to create a donation hub of essential items for Afghan relief.
Congressman Swalwell recognized the hard work of local humanitarian organizations, including The 5ive Pillars Organization and the International Rescue Committee Oakland.
The donation hub was opened in September 2021 to establish a donation center where Afghan newcomers are provided with immediate essentials, like clothing, houseware, toiletries, school supplies, and diapers.
On January 19, Congressman Swalwell and 13 members of Congress signed a letter to President Joe Biden “to recommend a focused release of humanitarian funds to address the imminent economic and humanitarian disasters facing the Afghan people”.
The 5ive Pillars Organization extends its deepest gratitude to the Office of Congressman Swalwell for their support of our efforts to provide relief to Afghan newcomers in our community.
Congressman Swalwell represents California's 13th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Dublin, Castro Valley, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, Union City, and parts of Fremont.
