The 5ive Pillars Org, ICNA Relief USA Welcome Afghan Families With Iftar

The 5ive Pillars Organization and the Islamic Circle North America (ICNA) Relief USA hosted recently resettled Afghan newcomers for a special Iftar event on April 24.

In partnership with Express Kabob Grill in Fremont, Afghan newcomers and their families enjoyed one of their first Iftar events outside their native Afghanistan.

Fremont Mayor Lily Mei attended the Iftar and presented The 5ive Pillars Organization with an official City of Fremont Certificate of Recognition for efforts in welcoming Afghan newcomers. Mallory De Lauro, District Chief of Staff to Congressman Eric Swalwell, was also in attendance.

Guest speakers included The 5ive Pillars Organization Co-Founder Zuhal Bahaduri and Refugees Facilitation Manager for ICNA Relief USA Fazal Wahab. Special guest Naveed Ahmed, Area Manager for ICNA Relief Norcal attended the Iftar and welcomed newcomers as they navigate their journey through the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Bay Area has the highest concentration of Afghan immigrants in California; and is the second largest concentration at the national level just behind Washington, DC.
