Our Statement on Migrant Deaths in San Antonio, Texas

June 29, 2022

We join in the collective mourning, sadness, and dismay that the news of at least 50 migrant deaths in San Antonio, Texas brings to our communities.

The 5ive Pillars Organization’s mission is to aid refugees in our Northern California communities, and while this tragedy unfolded hundreds of miles away, we stand in solidarity with migrant communities and non-profit organizations in Texas who face this terrible and difficult time.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the families and survivors of this tragedy. Our Afghan and Afghan-American leadership at the 5ive Pillars Organization stand in solidarity with the migrants who, at the time of this statement, appear to be from Mexico and Central America.

We share the challenges of navigating complex and unfair immigration policies that trigger our collective strive for compassionate responses to vulnerable migrants’ needs.

We encourage supporters of The 5ive Pillars Organization to join in our collective support for Texas-based organizations that are responding to this tragedy in San Antonio.
